Zcash (ZEC) price and market data
Privacy coin · Proof of Work
Short answer: Zcash is a Bitcoin-derived currency with optional fully shielded transactions using zero-knowledge proofs. The panel below loads its live price, market cap, volume, supply, and 24h/7d/30d performance from named public sources with the as-of time printed on it. The sections after it explain what Zcash is and how it works, without quoting prices that would go stale.
What is Zcash?
Zcash is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency launched in October 2016. It is built from Bitcoin's codebase, with the same 21 million coin cap and four-year halving rhythm, plus one fundamental addition: shielded transactions. Using zero-knowledge proofs, a shielded payment encrypts the sender, the receiver, and the amount, while still letting the network verify that the payment is valid and no coins were created from nothing.
Privacy on Zcash is optional per transaction. Users choose transparent addresses, which behave like Bitcoin addresses, or shielded addresses, which keep details private. That optionality has made Zcash the reference design for selectable on-chain privacy, and a recurring subject in debates over financial privacy and regulation.
How Zcash works
- Miners secure the chain with proof of work (the Equihash algorithm), and block rewards halve every four years toward the fixed 21 million cap.
- Shielded transactions use zk-SNARK zero-knowledge proofs: the network checks a mathematical proof of validity without seeing the payment's contents.
- Funds can move between transparent and shielded pools; only the movement between pools is visible, not activity inside the shielded pool.
- A portion of each block reward funds ongoing development through the Zcash development fund, a governance choice written into the protocol.
The risk, in plain terms
ZEC is volatile, and privacy features have led some exchanges to delist privacy coins under regulatory pressure, which can affect liquidity without warning.

Frequently asked questions
What is the current price of Zcash?
The live panel at the top of this page shows the latest ZEC price in US dollars, loaded in your browser from the CoinGecko public market API with the CoinPaprika public API as fallback. It refreshes about every two minutes while the page is open and prints its source and as-of time beside the figures. An aggregator price is a market-wide average across exchanges; a single exchange can quote slightly higher or lower at the same moment.
How is Zcash's market cap calculated?
Market capitalization is the current price multiplied by the circulating supply, the amount of ZEC in public hands as reported by the data source. Where the source publishes total and maximum supply, this page shows those beside the circulating figure so the gap is visible. Market cap values the circulating coins at today's price; it is not the amount of money anyone has invested in the asset, and it moves whenever either the price or the reported supply changes.
Is ZEC a good investment?
CryptosEyes does not make that call for any asset. This page publishes market data with named sources and explains how Zcash works, so you can judge it against your own research. The risk to understand first: ZEC is volatile, and privacy features have led some exchanges to delist privacy coins under regulatory pressure, which can affect liquidity without warning.
