Tether (USDT) price and market data

USD stablecoin · Tether Ltd

Short answer: Tether is the largest US dollar stablecoin, issued centrally by Tether and traded across most major blockchains. The panel below loads its live price, market cap, volume, supply, and 24h/7d/30d performance from named public sources with the as-of time printed on it. The sections after it explain what Tether is and how it works, without quoting prices that would go stale.

What is Tether?

Tether (USDT) is the largest US dollar stablecoin: a token designed to trade at one US dollar, issued by Tether on more than a dozen blockchains, with especially large supply on Ethereum and TRON. It exists so traders, exchanges, and payment services can hold and move dollar value inside crypto markets without returning to a bank account for every transfer.

USDT is centrally issued. Tether creates tokens when customers deposit dollars and destroys them on redemption, and it reports reserves of cash, US Treasury bills, and other assets held against the supply. That makes USDT a claim on one company's reserves, which is a different risk profile from a decentralized asset such as Bitcoin, where no issuer exists to fail.

How Tether works

  • Tokens are minted and redeemed by Tether against customer deposits; the circulating supply expands and contracts with demand rather than on a schedule.
  • The one-dollar price is held by arbitrage: anyone who can redeem at Tether for a dollar will buy USDT below a dollar and sell it above, pushing the market price back to the peg.
  • USDT is issued natively on many chains, so the supply shown on this page is the combined figure across all of them as reported by the data source.
  • Tether can freeze tokens at specific addresses, and has done so for sanctioned and illicit addresses, so USDT is not censorship resistant by design.

The risk, in plain terms

A stablecoin is only as sound as its issuer's reserves and its willingness to redeem. USDT carries issuer and regulatory risk that its one-dollar price does not remove.

Every figure on this page comes from the named public source printed beside it. If a feed fails, the panel says so instead of presenting old numbers as live. Read the methodology for how CryptosEyes sources market data, and the disclaimer before acting on anything you read here.

Frequently asked questions

What is the current price of Tether?

The live panel at the top of this page shows the latest USDT price in US dollars, loaded in your browser from the CoinGecko public market API with the CoinPaprika public API as fallback. It refreshes about every two minutes while the page is open and prints its source and as-of time beside the figures. An aggregator price is a market-wide average across exchanges; a single exchange can quote slightly higher or lower at the same moment.

How is Tether's market cap calculated?

Market capitalization is the current price multiplied by the circulating supply, the amount of USDT in public hands as reported by the data source. Where the source publishes total and maximum supply, this page shows those beside the circulating figure so the gap is visible. Market cap values the circulating coins at today's price; it is not the amount of money anyone has invested in the asset, and it moves whenever either the price or the reported supply changes.

Is USDT a good investment?

CryptosEyes does not make that call for any asset. This page publishes market data with named sources and explains how Tether works, so you can judge it against your own research. The risk to understand first: A stablecoin is only as sound as its issuer's reserves and its willingness to redeem. USDT carries issuer and regulatory risk that its one-dollar price does not remove.
